Materials, performance, costs and regulation: we help companies find their way towards more efficient, more conscious packaging solutions.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ANABSOLUTELY SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION
Above all, every pack must protect the product, ensure safety and functionality and fit the production process.
That is why we assess every project as a whole, looking for the best possible balance between:
Performance
Protection, preservation and technical performance.
Efficiency
Optimising materials and processes.
Costs
Solutions that are sustainable from an economic standpoint too.
Sustainability
Reducing impact and using resources responsibly.
OPTIMISE BEFORE REPLACINGLESS MATERIAL, SAME PERFORMANCE
Reducing the impact of a pack does not necessarily mean changing material.
In many projects, optimisation can start from reducing thicknesses, simplifying structures or choosing more easily recyclable materials, while maintaining the performance the application requires.
Downgauging
Reducing thicknesses where technically possible.
Design for Recycling
Structures designed with their end of life in mind.
Optimisation
We optimise the amount of material required, without compromising the function of the pack.
PPWR: A NEW PHASEFOR EUROPEAN PACKAGING
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste (PPWR) introduces new requirements set to progressively transform the way packaging is designed, produced, used and managed at end of life.
The regulation entered into force on 11 February 2025 and applies from 12 August 2026.
Recyclability
The PPWR introduces progressive recyclability requirements and design-for-recycling criteria. From 2030, recyclability performance grades will come into play, according to the criteria and implementing acts set out in the regulation.
Recycled content
Minimum percentages of post-consumer recycled material are set for various categories of plastic packaging, with differentiated and progressive targets from 2030 and 2040.
Reduction and reuse
The regulation aims to reduce packaging waste and introduces requirements on minimisation, reuse and refill for specific types and applications.
Labelling
Harmonised labelling systems are envisaged to make it easier to identify materials and collect packaging correctly, according to the timescales and implementing acts set out in the regulation.
The applicable requirements depend on the type, material, use and specific characteristics of the packaging.
FROM REGULATIONTO PRACTICAL CHOICES
Our role is to help the client turn technical requirements and market changes into practical packaging choices.
Thanks to our experience and our work with specialised partners, we assess the following together with the client:
Materials and structures
We analyse possible alternatives according to the application.
Performance
Sustainability must not compromise protection, preservation and functionality.
Production process
We consider compatibility with packaging lines, technologies and conditions.
Regulatory developments
We follow developments in the regulatory framework and in the requirements affecting packaging solutions.
Costs
We assess sustainability from an economic and industrial standpoint too.
DIFFERENT MATERIALSDIFFERENT NEEDS
Plastic
Paper and board
Flexibles
Mono-materials
Recycled and bio-based
The choice of material is a consequence of the requirement, not the starting point.
PROTECTING THE PRODUCTIS PART OF SUSTAINABILITY
Properly designed packaging helps preserve the product, ensure its safety and limit waste.
That is why the environmental assessment of a solution cannot be separated from its primary function: protecting what it contains.
Preservation
Safety
Shelf life
Reducing food waste
The function of the pack remains central.
